Now that you have identified your keywords you need to optimise your website with them. If you are using WordPress then I suggest you download one of these useful plugins and then fill in the required information for your website.

They are both free and they have excellent tutorials on how to use them.

If you do not know how to install a plugin simply go to your WordPress dashboard, select ‘Plugins” then “Add New” and search for one of those plugins I mentioned above. Once you found it click on ‘Install’. Once it is completed a screen will appear with the option to ‘Activate” the plugin. Click it and then go and edit the settings.

Remember to fill in the details for each blog post that you do.There is tons of information available on the above site’s download page on how to setup this particular plugin so I am not going to cover all the various options.

You only need to do this once, but make sure that you have covered all the bases.

Outward bound links to authority sites

An outward bound link is a link to another website other than yours. Now this may not seem like a good idea but having a few strategically placed outward bound links is good for SEO purposes if done correctly.

The important thing to remember is that you should only link to authority sites. An authority site is a very high quality website that is respected by knowledgeable people in its industry. They publish trustworthy information and link to other trustworthy places on the web.

A few good examples of this are:

  • Wikipedia
  • Reputable Online news sites
  • Social Media Accounts
  • Well known bloggers in your industry

Your task for today is look at your existing content on your website and see what text you can link to one of these authority sites.

Let’s take Wikipedia for example. You will see that I have hyperlinked the word ‘publishing’ in this sentence to go directly to Wikipedia. That is an example of a text anchor.

Make sure that you link a word on each of your posts to your social media accounts.

You will notice that all my blog posts contain a link back to my Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google + and YouTube accounts. Here is a sample post: They Stole My Body.

Make sure that all those links open up into a new window. You do not want people leaving your site.

Don’t forget your images. When you use images, be sure to make the file name relevant to the subject. Have a title and a description for each image.
