It is really important to track the traffic on your website. This enables you to work out what traffic strategies that you are applying are working or not working.

Most people use Google Analytics to track the traffic stats on their sites. I prefer to use both Google Analytics and Statcounter.

Google Analytics

You need to create a Google Analytics account for yourself. You can do this here:

www.google.com/analytics/

Once you have created your account with your website address, make a note of your Analytics code because you are now going to install the Google Analytics plugin.

  • Dashboard
  • Plugins
  • Add new
  • Search for Google Analytics
  • Install and activate
  • Edit the settings and put in your Analytics code that you received.

Statcounter

StatCounter is a lovely tracking system but there are others available. It allows you to create as many projects as you want and it is free. There is a paid version but to date I have not had a need for it.

My personal favourite is this one but you can use whichever tracking tool you wish.

You need to create an account at www.statcounter.com. Once you have created your account, you then create a ‘Project’ which would be your website that you working on.

Once the project has been created you will be given a Project ID and Project Code. Make a note of it. Then go back into WordPress and add the Statcounter plugin.

  • Dashboard
  • Plugins
  • Add new
  • Search for Statcounter (Select the first one that comes up)
  • Install and activate
  • Edit the settings and put in your Statcounter project ID and code that you made a note of.

That’s it.
